Betterlate Publishing was founded in 2025 to publish books about and for English language teaching, whether in English-speaking countries, in countries where English is a foreign language or online.

Learning English has chapters on who learns English, where they do it and in what kinds of situations. The book considers the differences between learning first and second languages and underlying theories about both in their similar in different ways. The chapter on methodologies discusses that that have had – and continue to have - a profound effect on teaching today. (Available spring 2026)

Teaching Language Systems talks suggests how to model, introduce and teach new items in the language before leading on to separate chapters on teaching and practising grammar, teaching and practising lexis and vocabulary and teaching pronunciation. Examples of both presenting and practising will be given in all three areas. (Available summer 2026)

Teaching Language Skills looks at teaching speaking, teaching listening, Teaching read and teaching writing after an introductory chapter discussing how skill teaching interacts with language systems teaching and how multi-skill lesson plans interweave activities within all four areas. Examples and explanations will be given together with suggestions for procedures. (Available late 2026)

Planning and Assessment discusses the principles behind lesson and course planning and shows how teachers can design their own plans using AI for example and other sources. In discussing Evaluation and Assessment there are discussions about how to approach the new to evaluate out students and the difference between various kinds of assessment – including public exams and more localised varieties. There are chapters on preparing students for exams, writing our own tests and how to involve students in the testing process. (Available early 2027)
